How to Use the Utah Child Support Calculator

Step 1: Select Your Custody Arrangement

Choose the appropriate custody arrangement from the dropdown menu. Options include Sole Physical Custody (one parent has the children most of the time), Joint Physical Custody (children spend significant time with both parents), or Split Custody (each parent has primary custody of at least one child).

Step 2: Enter Income Information

Input the monthly gross income for both parents. This should include all sources of income such as wages, self-employment, investments, and any other regular income. Also select the appropriate tax filing status for each parent.

Step 3: Provide Children Details

Select the number of children involved in the support calculation and enter their ages. For joint custody arrangements, enter the number of overnight stays each child has with each parent per year (the total should equal 365).

Step 4: Add Additional Expenses

Enter any additional expenses related to the children, including monthly medical insurance premiums, childcare costs, medical expenses not covered by insurance, and education-related expenses.

Step 5: Review the Results

Click the “Calculate Child Support” button to generate your estimated child support amount. The results section will display the base support amount, adjustments for additional expenses, and the total monthly support obligation. You’ll also see an explanation of how the amount was calculated based on Utah’s guidelines.
