How Roblox Taxes Work
Roblox applies marketplace fees to most transactions to maintain platform operations and provide creator support services. Here’s what you need to know:
- Standard Rate: Most transactions have a 30% marketplace fee, meaning creators keep 70% of the sale price
- In-Game Sales: When your item is sold within another creator’s game, the fee increases to 40% (you keep 60%)
- No Double Taxation: Robux earned from sales can be withdrawn through DevEx without additional marketplace fees
- Group Transfers: Moving Robux between group members has no fees
- Immediate Deduction: Taxes are automatically deducted when the transaction occurs
Developer Exchange (DevEx) Considerations
When planning to cash out through Roblox’s Developer Exchange program:
- Minimum Requirement: You need at least 50,000 Robux to participate in DevEx
- Exchange Rate: Current rate is approximately $0.0035 per Robux (rates may change)
- Tax Implications: DevEx earnings are considered taxable income in most jurisdictions
