Edge to Edge Spacing

Outside to Outside Spacing

Spacing = Total Length ÷ (Number of Objects + 1)

Practical Examples

Example 1: Installing 5 light fixtures along a 20-foot wall using center-to-center spacing:

Spacing = 20 ÷ (5-1) = 5 feet between fixture centers

Example 2: Placing 4 posts with 6-inch width in a 30-foot fence line using edge-to-edge spacing:

Spacing = (30×12 – (4×6)) ÷ (4-1) = (360-24) ÷ 3 = 112 inches = 9.33 feet between post edges

Example 3: Distributing 3 windows evenly across a 24-foot wall using outside-to-outside spacing:
