How to Use the Chicken Run Size Calculator
Step 1: Enter the number of regular-sized chickens you have or plan to have in the “Number of Regular Chickens” field.
Step 2: Input the number of bantam chickens (if any) in the “Number of Bantam Chickens” field.
Step 3: Select the type of space you’re planning to provide for your chickens from the dropdown menu. Choose between “Coop” (if chickens will stay inside most of the day), “Run” (if chickens will have outdoor access), or “Free Range” (if chickens will roam freely).
Step 4: Click the “Calculate” button to generate your results.
Step 5: Review the recommended space in square feet, which is calculated based on the number and type of chickens and the selected space type.
Step 6: Take note of the recommended number of nest boxes, which is calculated as one box per 3-4 hens.
Step 7: Consider the additional recommendations provided, such as roosting space per chicken, ventilation needs, and the inclusion of feeders and waterers.
Step 8: Use this information to plan or adjust your chicken coop and run design to ensure your flock has adequate space for optimal health and happiness.
