How to Use the PayPal Fee Calculator

To use the PayPal Fee Calculator, follow these steps:

Step 1: Enter Transaction Amount

Input the total transaction amount in the provided input field.

Step 2: Select Transaction Type

Choose whether the transaction is domestic (within the same country) or international (across different countries). This selection will impact the percentage-based fee rate.

Step 3: Select Payment Method

Select the method used for the transaction from the dropdown list. The available methods include PayPal Checkout, PayPal Guest Checkout, QR Code, Pay with Venmo, Credit/Debit Card, and Goods and Services. Each payment method has its specific percentage-based fee rate.

Step 4: Select Country or Region (Currency)

Choose the currency based on your country or region from the dropdown list. This selection determines the fixed fee added to the percentage-based fee.

Step 5: Calculate Fee

Click the “Calculate Fee” button to compute the PayPal fees and the net amount you will receive after the fee deduction.

The calculator works by first fetching the transaction amount, transaction type, payment method, and currency from your inputs. It then determines the appropriate percentage-based fee rate based on whether the transaction is domestic or international and the chosen payment method. For example, a domestic PayPal Checkout has a rate of 3.49%, while an international PayPal Checkout has a rate of 3.49% plus an additional 1.50%.

Next, the calculator fetches the fixed fee based on the selected currency and payment method. For instance, a domestic PayPal Checkout transaction in USD has a fixed fee of 0.49 USD, whereas a QR Code transaction in USD has a fixed fee of 0.09 USD. The total fee is then calculated by applying the percentage-based fee to the transaction amount and adding the fixed fee using the formula: Total Fee = (Transaction Amount * Percentage Fee / 100) + Fixed Fee. For example, for a 100 USD domestic PayPal Checkout transaction, the percentage fee is 3.49 USD and the fixed fee is 0.49 USD, resulting in a total fee of 3.98 USD.

Finally, the net amount is calculated by subtracting the total fee from the transaction amount using the formula: Net Amount = Transaction Amount – Total Fee. For the 100 USD domestic PayPal Checkout transaction example, the net amount would be 96.02 USD. The calculator displays the fee rate, the total fee, and the net amount in a clear and highlighted manner for easy understanding.

By following these steps, the calculator provides an accurate breakdown of the PayPal fees and the final amount you will receive from the transaction.
