What is an Orthocenter?
The orthocenter is a significant point in triangle geometry where all three altitudes of a triangle intersect. An altitude is a line segment drawn from a vertex perpendicular to the opposite side (or its extension). The location of the orthocenter varies depending on the triangle type:
- In acute triangles: The orthocenter lies inside the triangle
- In obtuse triangles: The orthocenter lies outside the triangle
- In right triangles: The orthocenter coincides with the vertex of the right angle
- In equilateral triangles: The orthocenter coincides with the centroid and circumcenter
How to Calculate Triangle Orthocenter
Step 1
Enter the x and y coordinates for Vertex A of your triangle in the designated input fields.
Step 2
Input the coordinates for Vertex B in the second row of coordinate fields.
Step 3
Enter the coordinates for Vertex C in the third row of input fields.
Step 4
Click the calculate button to obtain the orthocenter coordinates.
Step 5
Review the results section, which displays:
- The exact coordinates of the orthocenter
- A visual representation of your triangle
- The calculation process including slopes and perpendicular lines
Step 6
Examine the interactive triangle diagram showing the orthocenter’s position relative to your triangle vertices.
