Holiday Pay Calculator
What is Holiday Pay?
Holiday pay is the amount of money an employee receives for time off during public holidays or annual leave.
In the UK, all workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year. This entitlement is pro-rated for part-time workers.
Holiday pay ensures that employees can take time off without losing income, contributing to work-life balance and overall job satisfaction.
How to Use the Holiday Pay Calculator?
1. Select Employment Type: Choose your employment status from the dropdown menu. Options include full-time, part-time, or casual employment. This selection affects how your holiday pay is calculated.
2. Enter Hourly Pay Rate: Input your hourly pay rate in pounds (£). Be sure to use your basic pay rate, excluding any overtime or bonus payments.
3. Specify Average Hours Worked Per Week: Enter the number of hours you typically work in a week. For those with variable hours, use an average over the last 12 weeks.
4. Input Days Worked Per Week: Enter the number of days you work in a typical week. This helps calculate your daily rate for holiday pay purposes.
5. Enter Number of Holiday Days: Input the number of holiday days you’re calculating pay for. This could be for a single day off or for your entire annual leave entitlement.
6. Calculate: Click the “Calculate Holiday Pay” button to process your information. The calculator will display your estimated holiday pay along with an explanation of how it was calculated.
The calculator uses different methods depending on your employment type:
- For full-time and part-time workers, it calculates a daily rate based on your weekly pay and days worked, then multiplies this by the number of holiday days.
- For casual workers, it calculates holiday pay based on 5.6 weeks of average weekly pay, as per UK statutory minimum.
It’s important to note that this calculator provides an estimate based on standard calculations. Your actual holiday pay may vary depending on your specific employment contract, company policies, or collective agreements. Always consult with your employer or HR department for the most accurate information regarding your holiday pay.
