What is Saddle Height?

Saddle height refers to the vertical distance from the center of the bottom bracket (where the pedals attach to the bike frame) to the top of the saddle. It’s a crucial measurement in bike fitting that significantly impacts a cyclist’s comfort, efficiency, and power output. Proper saddle height ensures optimal leg extension during pedaling, reducing the risk of injury and maximizing performance.

How to Use the Saddle Height Calculator

Step 1: Measure your inseam length. Stand barefoot with your back against a wall and place a book between your legs, pressing it firmly against your crotch. Mark the top edge of the book on the wall and measure from the floor to this mark in millimeters.

Step 2: Determine your crank length. This information is usually printed on the inside of your bike’s crank arm. Common lengths are 170mm, 172.5mm, and 175mm.

Step 3: Enter your shoe size in EU sizing. If you only know your US or UK size, convert it to EU size using an online conversion chart.

Step 4: Select your riding experience level from the dropdown menu. Choose “Beginner” if you’re new to cycling, “Intermediate” if you ride regularly, or “Advanced” if you’re an experienced cyclist or racer.

Step 5: Click the “Calculate Saddle Height” button to get your recommended saddle height.

Step 6: Review the result and explanation provided. Remember that this calculation is a starting point and may need fine-tuning based on your individual physiology and riding style.

Step 7: Use the calculated saddle height as a guide when adjusting your bike. Measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle along the seat tube.

Step 8: Test the new saddle height during a ride. Pay attention to your comfort and pedaling efficiency. If needed, make small adjustments (1-2mm at a time) until you find your optimal position.
