What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is a standard method used by educational institutions to measure a student’s overall academic performance across multiple semesters or academic years. CGPA takes into account the grades earned in all courses, weighted by their credit hours, and provides a single number that represents the student’s average performance.

The CGPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. This results in a number typically on a 4.0 scale, where 4.0 is the highest possible CGPA, representing straight A grades in all courses.

CGPA is important because it:

  • Provides a comprehensive view of a student’s academic performance over time
  • Is often used by employers and graduate schools to evaluate applicants
  • Helps students track their progress and set academic goals
  • Can determine eligibility for scholarships, honors programs, or continued enrollment

How to Use the CGPA Calculator?

Our CGPA Calculator tool is designed to help students easily calculate their Cumulative Grade Point Average across multiple semesters. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use this tool effectively:

1. Start with the First Semester
When you open the tool, you’ll see a form for the first semester already present. This is where you’ll begin entering your course information.

2. Enter Course Details
For each course in the semester, input the following information:

  • Course Name (optional, but helpful for your reference)
  • Credit Hours (typically ranging from 1 to 6)
  • Grade (select from the dropdown menu)

3. Add More Courses
If you have more courses in the semester than the initial row provides, click the “Add Course” button. This will create a new row where you can enter details for another course.

4. Add More Semesters
Once you’ve entered all courses for the first semester, click the “Add Semester” button to create a new section for your next semester. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for this new semester.

5. Continue Adding Semesters
Keep adding semesters and courses as needed to cover your entire academic history or the period for which you want to calculate your CGPA.

6. Calculate CGPA
After you’ve entered all your course information across all semesters, click the “Calculate CGPA” button at the bottom of the page.
The tool will display your calculated CGPA, along with additional information:

  • Your CGPA (to two decimal places)
  • Total Grade Points earned
  • Total Credit Hours attempted
  • An explanation of how the CGPA was calculated

While this tool provides an accurate calculation based on the information you input, it’s always a good idea to verify your official CGPA with your educational institution. They may have specific policies or rounding rules that could affect the final CGPA calculation.

By following these steps, you can effectively use the CGPA Calculator to track your academic progress, set goals, and understand your overall academic standing.
