How to Use the Semitone Calculator
Step 1: Select the First Note
Choose the first note from the dropdown menu labeled “First Note.” This menu includes all 12 notes of the Western musical scale (C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab, A, A#/Bb, B).
Step 2: Choose the Octave for the First Note
Enter the octave number for the first note in the “Octave” input field next to the first note. Octaves typically range from 0 to 8, with 4 being the middle octave on a piano.
Step 3: Select the Second Note
Choose the second note from the dropdown menu labeled “Second Note.” This menu contains the same options as the first note menu.
Step 4: Choose the Octave for the Second Note
Enter the octave number for the second note in the “Octave” input field next to the second note.
Step 5: Calculate the Interval
Click the “Calculate” button to determine the interval between the two selected notes.
Step 6: Interpret the Results
The calculator will display the number of semitones and cents between the two notes. It will also provide a brief explanation of how the calculation was performed.
Step 7: Experiment with Different Note Combinations
Try various combinations of notes and octaves to explore different musical intervals and enhance your understanding of music theory.
