IELTS Band Scores

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) uses a 9-band scoring system to measure and report test scores in a consistent manner. Each band corresponds to a particular level of English language competency, from Band 1 (non-user) to Band 9 (expert user).

Your overall IELTS band score is calculated as the average of your four individual skill scores: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The final score is rounded to the nearest half band (0.5). For example, if your average is 6.75, your overall band score would be 7.0, while an average of 6.25 would result in a band score of 6.5.

Understanding your band score is crucial for university admissions, visa applications, and professional registration requirements. Different institutions and countries have varying minimum score requirements, typically ranging from 5.5 to 8.0 depending on the program or purpose.
