What is a Weighted Average Mark (WAM)?
The Weighted Average Mark (WAM) is a key metric used by universities and colleges to measure a student’s overall academic performance. Unlike a simple average, the WAM takes into account the significance (weight) of each subject or assessment, ensuring that more important or credit-heavy courses have a proportional impact on your final score. This approach provides a fairer and more accurate reflection of your achievements, especially when subjects vary in difficulty or credit value.
How to Use the Weighted Average Mark Calculator
Begin by entering the name of each subject or assessment in the first column. This step is optional but helps you keep track of your entries.
In the next column, input the mark or grade you achieved for each subject. Ensure the mark is a valid number, typically between 0 and 100.
Enter the corresponding weight for each subject. This could be the credit points, percentage, or any other value that represents the importance of the subject. All weights must be positive numbers.
To add more subjects or assessments, click the “Add Row” button. You can remove any row by clicking the “Remove” button next to it.
After entering all your data, press the “Calculate” button. Your Weighted Average Mark will be displayed clearly, along with a breakdown of the calculation and an explanation of the result.
