Annual Leave Calculator for 38 Hour Week Employees

What is annual leave?
Annual leave is paid time off work that employees in Australia are entitled to, based on their ordinary hours. Full-time employees working a 38-hour week receive four weeks (152 hours) of annual leave per year. Part-time employees accrue leave on a pro-rata basis, and new starters or those who leave mid-year accrue leave according to their period of service. Leave loading (usually 17.5%) may apply to payments during annual leave.

How to Use the Annual Leave Calculator 38 Hour Week

Step One: Select your employment type. Choose “Full-time” if you work a standard 38-hour week, or “Part-time” if your weekly hours differ.

Step Two: If you are part-time, enter your average weekly working hours (up to 38). For full-time, this field is not required.

Step Three: Enter the period of employment in weeks. Use 52 for a full year, or adjust this value if you started or finished partway through the year.

Step Four: Indicate whether to apply the 17.5% leave loading, which is a common additional payment during annual leave in Australia.

Step Five: Optionally, input your weekly base pay to estimate your total leave payment. Click “Calculate” to see your accrued annual leave in hours and weeks, as well as an estimated payment if pay details were provided. The results include a clear explanation of the calculation formulas, helping you understand your entitlements under the 38-hour week standard.
