These blankets typically weigh between 5 and 30 pounds and are designed to simulate deep pressure stimulation, which can help promote relaxation and better sleep quality. The pressure from these blankets helps release serotonin and melatonin while reducing cortisol levels, creating a calming effect similar to being hugged.
How to Use the Weighted Blanket Calculator
Step 1: Select whether you’re calculating for a single person or a couple using the radio buttons at the top of the calculator.
Step 2: Enter your body weight in pounds in the first input field. If calculating for a couple, enter your partner’s weight in the second field that appears.
Step 3: Click the calculate button to receive your recommended blanket weight.
Step 4: Review the results and explanation provided. For single users, the calculator uses the 10% rule plus a small adjustment. For couples, it calculates 7.5% of combined weight.
Step 5: If calculating for a couple and the weight difference is more than 25%, the calculator will recommend separate blankets for optimal comfort.
Step 6: Use the provided explanation to understand how the recommendation was calculated and choose a blanket weight closest to the suggested value.
