Propane Usage Calculator for Monthly Planning

Propane Usage Calculator

Estimate your monthly propane usage based on appliances and hours of usage.

What Is Propane Usage?

Propane usage refers to the amount of propane fuel required to power appliances like heaters, ovens, or water heaters over a specific period (e.g., monthly). Propane, measured in gallons, powers appliances by generating heat energy quantified in British Thermal Units (BTUs). Knowing how much propane is consumed helps homeowners plan expenses, order fuel on time, and reduce potential shortages.

Each appliance has a unique BTU rating indicating its hourly energy consumption. By combining BTU ratings, daily usage hours, and converting them using a constant (91,500 BTUs per gallon of propane), users can calculate monthly propane requirements.

How to Use the Propane Usage Calculator

Follow these steps to estimate your monthly propane usage:

Step 1

Enter the number of propane-powered appliances you’d like to estimate usage for in the "Number of Appliances" field.

Step 2

Click the "Add Appliances" button to generate input fields for each appliance. For every appliance, provide:

  • Appliance name (e.g., Heater or Stove).
  • BTU rating (refer to product manuals for this value, e.g., 40,000 BTU).
  • Daily hours of usage for the appliance.

Step 3

Once all inputs are filled, press the "Calculate Monthly Usage" button.

Step 4

View your estimated propane usage (in gallons per month). Below the result, see an explanation of the calculation formula ([BTU × Hours × Days] ÷ 91,500).

This tool is ideal for homeowners managing propane-powered devices and can help with better fuel budgeting and planning.
